Kick-Off Classic

The MSI Kick Off Classic is a great way to kick off the season! The tournament is open to all MSI Classic teams, plus invited Metro-DC area ‘Classic-level’ leagues, providing a competitive and fun tune-up for the start of the soccer year. Games will be played in Montgomery County over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

PARTICIPANTS

The Kick Off Classic is for MSI Classic and Metro-DC area ‘Classic-level’ travel teams. Divisions will be based on the team's level of play. Guest players are allowed, up to a maximum of half your roster size. These guest players must be registered with MSI or registered within your league of participation and must be able to show proof of registration with MSYSA or a US Youth Soccer-affiliated club. Roster sizes will be based on the maximum size of the roster used for the upcoming fall season.


Rosters are not required to be shown to referees at each game, but a roster of players must be completed in the team’s 'Tournament Team' in PlayMetrics, prior to the start of the tournament. Rosters can be copied from the upcoming Classic League fall season

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • U9-U10 /3rd-4th Grade: 7v7
  • U11-U12 /5th-6th Grade: 9v9
  • U13 /7th Grade and above: 11v11

The age bracket of divisions is determined based on the number of teams registered, but will not be combined with more than one year older. All teams will play 3 games over the weekend, 25-minute halves for U9 and U10 and 30-minute halves for all other ages, 5 minutes for half time. Championship games will be played on Sunday afternoon for the top two teams in each age group or age division. Medals will be awarded to winners and runners-up. 


Some games are scheduled for Friday evening. Results will be recorded and standings determined on the basis of points awarded per game, 3 points for a win, and 1 point for a tie.


Semi-finals (if needed) and final games that end in a tie will result in two 5-minute halves of extra time (no sudden death). Semi-finals (if needed) and final games that remain tied after extra time will be decided by FIFA’s penalty shootout procedure.

TOURNAMENT FEES

  • U9-U10 /3rd-4th Grade: $380
  • U11-U12 /5th-6th Grade: $440
  • U13 /7th Grade and above: $485

The price is per team, paying by check. Add an additional 3% for credit card transaction fees.


Refund Policy: if the tournament must be canceled in its entirety, full refunds will be provided. If teams play at least one game, no refunds will be provided (recognizing that there are many fixed costs associated with the event).
