MSI’s new Winter Soccer League is an excellent opportunity to stay active through the winter and play on some of the area’s finest fields. The season will consist of 8 games per team. Games will be scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays beginning the weekend of December 4th and continuing through the month of February. No games will be played on the weekends of December 25th and January 1st. Games may be scheduled the weekends of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day. To the extent possible games will be scheduled between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Additional days and times may be utilized if necessary based on the number of teams registering.
MSI will consider each team’s age group and experience to determine the appropriate divisions of play. We will do our best to ensure that all teams are afforded a reasonable level of competition. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide a division for all teams that apply. In the event that we cannot offer an appropriate level of play we will provide a full refund.

Existing MSI Classic Teams - Classic Teams will follow similar Registration procedures as in past programs. You will have the opportunity to add players and make changes to your roster if desired by following the Classic Program guidelines.
Existing MSI Recreational Teams - If you are an existing MSI Recreational Team you may register to play in our Winter Soccer League. Registrations is by team, and not individuals. You will have an opportunity to add new players and make other changes to your roster for your Winter League team.
Non-MSI Teams - MSI is pleased to provide an opportunity for other teams to join our Winter Soccer League! Please send an email to [email protected] with “Winter League Registration” in the Subject line. Please include your team’s age group, gender, information on non-MSI club affiliation, most recent league affiliation and division placement, information on current registration and carding of players, plus any additional information you would like us to consider when placing your team. We cannot guarantee a spot to all teams who inquire but will do our best to accommodate as many teams as possible.
Individual Players Interested in Playing - If you are interested in playing but do not have a team that is signing up for the Winter League, we will assist you in trying to find an appropriate team. Please send an email to [email protected] with “Winter League – Player” in the Subject line. We will need your age group and school grade, gender, and any prior level of play information. By providing this information you are permitting MSI to share your name and age with coaches of potential teams. Coaches will reach out if they have spots available to fill on their roster. By being placed on a team in the Winter League program you are not automatically rostered to that team for any future programs. However, if you are added to a Classic team you may discuss your options with your coach. Important Note Regarding Registration Deadlines and Fees - The deadlines for team registration and payment is Monday November 16th. Timely registration and fee payment for teams is critical for divisional planning and game scheduling purposes. Please be considerate of other teams and register and submit fee payment on time. Registration and payment of fee after the payment deadline will be assessed a $100 late fee. Once the registration/payment deadline has passed, there are no refunds provided.
As always, MSI puts the health and safety of our players and families first. We will be monitoring weather conditions and reserve the right to cancel games based on temperature, rain/snow, or any other weather-related concern. Cancellation of games must be coordinated with the School and Park permitting agencies, as well as other agencies depending on fields used for play. If games are canceled league-wide, notification will be placed on the MSI website as early as possible. If field conditions deteriorate during the day, or specific fields are unplayable, games may be canceled on a field-by-field basis. Teams will be notified when possible, and cancellations will be posted on the MSI website as they are reported. Once games have started, referees are instructed to use common sense and suspend play if dangerous conditions exist. A game is considered complete if the first half is completed before being terminated by the referee. Every attempt will be made to make up missed games, however, we cannot guarantee a full 8-game schedule if weather prohibits us from playing one or more games.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR PLAYER HEALTH AND SAFETY
There is the possibility that local health regulations may require modifications to our format of play, and MSI will comply with those regulations and develop a game-day format that is consistent with them. We will be continuing with the changes implemented for the fall season. Highlights and a link to more complete information are provided below.
Masks – Masks will continue to be required for Coaches and Players while at the field and during game play.
All Teams are limited to a total of 10 players per team plus one coach and a parent volunteer.
Pursuant to Montgomery County Department of Health Orders No Spectators are allowed.
Rules Modifications – We will continue the modifications defined for the fall season, including but not limited to:
Throw-ins: Instead of throw-ins, players will kick the ball into play from the spot where it went out of play
Headers: No heading of the ball is allowed
Slide Tackles: Slide tackling is not allowed
